Breast Cancer Story

25 years ago, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. After a six month struggle, she passed away at an early age of 57.

Last year on a warm summer day, I was putting lotion on after coming out of the pool and I noticed a lump on my right breast. I immediately called my doctor. He scheduled me to come in the very next day. I had had my regular mammogram and a breast examination from my gyno just 6 months prior. Everything back then was just fine, so I figured, how bad can it be? I was then referred to a surgeon for a biopsy. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had just had my 57th birthday.

My worst Nightmare had arrived. I had the big "C"...I was terrified!

I was on the computer for countless hours trying to get as much information as I could. I also went out and got a second opinion on my diagnosis and recommended treatment. There was no getting out of it...I had no choice...and so surgery and treatment began.

I was blessed to have a very supportive husband, and an excellent medical team. I was so impressed with the support they offered me throughout this whole ordeal. They were there every step of the way. I am so grateful to all of them.

It has now been one year since my diagnosis. My treatment has been successful and I am doing very well...I consider myself very lucky to have found the tumor myself in an early stage. I would like to pass one message on to all the ladies out there and that is "SELF BREAST EXAMINATION" along with regular screening can save your life!!! Stay well.
