A sister's battle

Hi, my name is Jennifer Drummond and my triplet sister can - and will - be a breast cancer survivor.

My sister, brother and I were born prematurely on May 2 1987, 11 weeks early. My sister was born the smallest weighing in at 2 pounds, 1 ounce. In the hospital she went down to 1 pound, 13 ounces, and further stayed in the hospital for 3 months. She fought this experience like a little champ and grew up to become a graduate in concurrent education at Brock University.

In June of this year my sister was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. So far, she has received 4 rounds of chemo and will undergo a unilateral mastectomy and hopefully have surgery to eradicate the cancer in her liver. She will further undergo radiation this year. This is no easy feat, being that she is only 23 years of age.

Growing up, my sister and I did everything together. We dressed the same, had the same classes, even kept the occasional secret from my parents (maybe this was more than occasional). Unfortunately, this is a journey that I’m unable to take fully with my sister and my hopes are, through walking, that I can someone contribute to her journey and help her with her fight.

Throughout this all, my sister has continuously held a smile on her face and even indulged in a few Florida tracksuits! She is honestly an inspiration and I will forever be her number one fan. My sister is – and will always be - a fighter.

Thank you to everyone for your support. This is for you Hilary...............
